When people ask us why we love living in our home located at 490 Grooms Road in Clifton Park, NY, we immediately answer that we are a family! We are 5 unique individuals who have a variety of disabilities yet we are a very tightknit group. Living at Grooms Road make us feel like we are valued and productive for these reasons:
Donald “Eddie” — “I love rocking in my rocking chair on the front porch and watching all the people go by. I love all the delicious meals we share too.”
Michael — “I love playing records and broadcasting my radio shows in the basement of our home. It is great having my own room and I enjoy going out with staff to various places. I cannot wait to having a new ramp at Grooms.”
Amy — “I like being able to move around in my wheelchair and I value the space to do it in.”
Kim Palmer, Kyle‘s Mom added, “Kyle has been at his ‘new’ home at Grooms Road for almost 2 years and loves the people — most of all his staff and housemates. Sometimes he even stays up waiting for certain staff to come in and tuck him into bed. Kyle likes to blow kisses to the morning staff and he enjoys going to the Saratoga Bridges dances with his housemates. He is learning to be more independent around the house and likes to load the dishwasher and help with his laundry. Kyle has made a great transition to living there and for that we are extremely grateful to the whole organization.”
Katie — “I like our staff, the food they prepare and getting to do fun things in the community.”
Katie’s Mom and Dad, Ruth and John Gillen said, “We are very happy with the life Katie has with Saratoga Bridges. To her Grooms Road is her ‘home’. When she is with us, it really is just to visit. Katie’s environment gives us much comfort as we know the staff really care about her and address all of her needs. We simply cannot express how grateful we are. In particular, we appreciate the individual attention she receives despite living with 4 others. Each week, the staff arrange exceptional activities for her. Often these include her special friend Brian. These date nights are meaningful for Katie and we cannot reiterate enough how our gratitude is endless because they truly support this relationship. Saratoga Bridges provides us with much reassurance, security and peace of mind!”

- Finley Road – installed a new large window in the dining room
- Geyser Road – renovated the garden level (first floor) of the house after extensive water damage
- Middle Grove Road – a major renovation with a new floor plan that included a large double bedroom changed to individual rooms and a new roof, siding, floors, paint, heaters, kitchen with appliances, doors, front entry, alarm system and garage door
- Pleasant Street – renovated first floor apartment kitchen
- Ruggles Road – installed electric supplemental heaters in the bedrooms of the people which have hypothermia to ensure their optimal comfort levels
- Washington Street – installed new flooring in 2 bedrooms
