Community Presence
We have an extensive list of community sites that we use for recreation, hobby development, and skill development. We use the Saratoga YMCA for racquetball and basketball. We have Yoga classes and nutrition classes. We participate in needlecraft classes, jewelry making, pottery, acting, and painting classes all located in the community. We are members of the Saratoga Arts Council, the Strolling Village Artisans, and the Ballston Spa Professional and Business Association. We are very active in many organizations in the communities that our day hab programs are located in. We use and volunteer at many local parks and hiking trails during the warmer months. We have a radio show in the summer months at the Skidmore College Radio Station, where our individuals choose the music and do the announcing for the show. We participate in food drives and clothing drives to support local homeless shelters and food pantries. We volunteer at local nursing homes and senior centers, visiting with the residents, folding laundry, and watering flowers. Many of our individuals have an interest in animals and we volunteer at local animal shelters by providing shredded paper for the cages, visiting with the dogs and cats, bringing dog biscuits and cat treats we have made and cleaning. We take classes in gardening at a Cooperative Extension Unlimited Gardens Program. We volunteer at a local Head Start Program and local nursery schools by reading to the children, helping with arts and crafts projects, and assisting on the playground. We volunteer at many local firehouses by helping to clean the stations. We deliver meals to seniors throughout the county through the Meals on Wheels Program. We assist seniors in their homes through the Care Links Program. We are proud of our creativity and resources in providing our individual’s the supports they need to develop their skills to achieve their dreams.
