The 17th Annual Great Pumpkin Challenge

raised $18 ,117 (NET) to benefit Saratoga Bridges

On Saturday, October 14, the 17th Annual Great Pumpkin Challenge that benefitted Saratoga Bridges.  Held in the Saratoga Spa State Park, over 1,300 runners, walkers, spectators and volunteers packed the Columbia Pavilion — raising over $18,000 NET for Saratoga Bridges’ programs and services.

The 5 & 10K races resulted in the overall Male & Female 5K winners – Chase Baker from Saratoga Springs and Elizabeth Predmore from Ballston Lake and the overall Male & Female 10K winners – Thijs Kolet from Saratoga Springs and Leigh Parker from Glenmont.  For 5K results CLICK HERE and for 10K results CLICK HEREFor 5K awards report CLICK HEREFor 10K awards report CLICK HERE.  Anyone that placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age group* received a special gift from Saratoga Bridges.  If winners missed the awards ceremony, they can call the Saratoga Bridges to arrange for pick up Monday – Friday between 8a.m. and 4p.m.

The event also included the popular Kids Fun Run for children 12 & under.  Many children dressed in costume as did some adults.  The winners of the costume contests are as follows:  Adult Costume –Scott LeFevre (Beast); Boys Costume Winner – Christopher Mason (Dwarf from Snow White) and Girls Costume Winner – Mackenzie LeFevre (Beauty).

The event featured NET Chip Timing from Albany Running Exchange, homemade refreshments, pumpkins decorated by their day programs, many raffle prizes and food donated by Price Chopper, Prestige Services and Freihofer’s Baking Co.

They had 34 “Bridges Buddies” participate in the 5K.  The “Bridges Buddies” Walking and Wheeling Program was created by their Wellness Committee for their employees and individuals from Day Programs and Residents.  It includes a 4-week training that leads up to The Great Pumpkin Challenge and they had a record 34 people participate this year.

They had over 120 volunteers from Criminal Justice Students from BOCES, Quad Graphics, Saratoga Sponsor-A-Scholar, Saratoga High School and Saratoga Bridges staff, board members and friends.

*PRIZES to the overall male and female winners based on GUN time & to the top three finishers in each age group division in the 5K and 10K based on NET time (No duplication of awards)
