We are most appreciative to The Charles R. Wood Foundation for awarding us a generous grant of $3,700, which we will use to support two of our programs — February Break program and Sibshops. As these are items are not funded by our traditional funding sources, this grant is especially welcomed to us!
In particular, the funds will allow us to give children opportunities that are free of charge. The first is the fun-filled week-long February Break program that will give children with special needs, ages 8-15, a variety of activities including arts & crafts, music, photography, dance and exercise. The grant will be applied towards supplies and enabling us to engage the services of the Colorful Creations Instructor and the Children’s Museum Instructor. The second initiative is our monthly Sibshops for brothers and sisters (ages 8-12) who have a sibling with special needs. Sibshops are unique, fun recreational activities and games that create new friendships for children to express their feelings, fears, thoughts and frustrations in a supportive group format. We will now be able to purchase supplies, crafts, books, t-shirts, refreshments and gifts for the participants.
We are truly grateful for the ongoing support we have received from The Charles R. Wood Foundation. They are certainly making an impact locally on the lives of children who live, work and volunteer in our neighborhoods. This grant follows suit by enhancing their creative opportunities!
