Saratoga Bridges Collects Much Needed items for Hurricane Irene Victims in Schoharie Valley!

Michael Trotta, a Program Coordinator at Saratoga Bridges’ Community Opportunities program in Saratoga Springs, organized collection boxes for employees to donate items for victims of Hurricane Irene who reside in the Schoharie Valley.  The staff response was overwhelming as a truckload of pet food, linens, clothing, electronics, non-perishables and miscellaneous utensils were donated.  Also, the Backstretch Employee Service Team contributed items as did many families from surrounding communities.  It truly was a joint effort by Saratoga County residents to help those in need in a neighboring county.

On Wednesday, October 5, the truck meandered through many back roads due to many closed routes and delivered the items to the Grand Gorge Distribution Center.  Michael stated this, “In the wake of Hurricane Irene, a lot of communities are still suffering and need help.  The Schoharie Valley and surrounding areas have been hit hard and are particularly close to my heart, as I grew up around there.  I asked my co-workers to please take stock of their cupboards and closets and donate anything that they did not want or need to the many who lost everything.”
